together tuesday - roadtrip fun (florida lifestyle photographer}
We have been making this 14+ hour roadtrip to Mississippi for 4 years now. The first time was a nightmare - Reese was a baby and cried in Jake's face for hours until he almost exploded. We had to deal with diapers, whiny kids, figuring out our route and where to stay. Fast forward to this year, we are on our second day of our roadtrip to MS and I'm truly not miserable. We have actually gotten into a roadtrip routine, there are no diapers or screaming kids, and everyone is getting along. Our roadtrip routine includes dinner at Cracker Barrel, which has always been perfect for Wayne, my southern husband, but was an adjustment for Jake and Cami four years ago. I was so impressed last night when the kids were actually excited for our dinner there, and Cami actually ordered something other than mac and cheese. I almost fell over when I heard the words, "fried shrimp and mashed potatoes" come out of her mouth. How things have changed! As I sit here typing on the computer in our motel in Tallahassee (we realized as we pulled in last night at 11 p.m. that we have even stayed here before), under covers, sharing a bed with Cami, looking at Jake, who slept on the equivalent of a windowsill with a cushion , and we all get ready for our continental breakfast (woo hoo!), I can't help but be amazed. Amazed that we are having fun in this little motel room, amazed that everyone is smiling, and happy that we all still like each other. Can't ask for more than that (: x0x0
